Construction of the "KnotSoFast"

Test run on Lay Lake.
In May of 2008, Tom began construction on a Glen-L designed "Bo Jest" mini-tugboat. The boat was constructed of wood and fiberglass, and is powered by a 9.9 HP Yamaha outboard engine.

The bow contains a V-berth, and a convertable bench/seat on the port side folds down to make a minimal bed for a grandchild.

The KnotSoFast is now almost completed, and has been in the water several times for final adjustments and testing.

The Maiden Voyage -- On May 31st, we will leave Montgomery, Al and travel down the Alabama River to Gulf Shores. Our Grand-daughter Abby will help crew the boat as she writes a book about the adventure. At 5 or 6 miles per hour, the trip should take us 7 or 8 days to complete.

We will update this site as often as possible, but we are unsure of the availability of internet service on the route, as most of the area we will go through is very rural.

  1. Tom, I was sent a notice of your trip by Glenn Dean. I was the one wondering about the 9.9. I write articles for Heartland Boating Magazine,Quimby's Cruising Guide, and Houseboat Magazine and am thinking you are either an article yourself or part of an article about other folks who have built their own boats, maybe particularly Glenn-L. I wonder what your thoughts might be about this. Thanks. "And let's be careful out there."
